Tate Reeves Turns to Desperate Smears Instead Of Standing Up To His Criminal Friends Who Stole Millions From Taxpayers

Nettleton – Today, Tate Reeves’ campaign hit the panic button, releasing a new TV ad full of desperate smears showing that he is deeply vulnerable, scared to face Brandon Presley, and still doesn’t have an answer for his role in the largest public corruption scandal in state history.

Brandon has the backbone to stand up to anyone wrong for Mississippi families, including corrupt lobbyists, DC politicians, and his own party. That’s why he’s been endorsed by leading Mississippi Republicans. Mississippians know that he is pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, and a tax cutter, and he always has been. Brandon even broke with his party to endorse George W. Bush in 2004. He stood up to Tate Reeves and DC Democrats and opposed the Kemper Power Plant boondoggle, which would have cost Mississippi taxpayers over $6 billion dollars. Brandon worked across the aisle to expand high-speed internet access to the most remote parts of Mississippi. In a recent profile, the Washington Examiner described Brandon as having “no problem crossing party lines.”

In contrast, Tate Reeves knows he can’t answer for his role in the largest public corruption scandal in state history, where $77 million in taxpayer dollars were lost, embezzled, and stolen from education and job programs for Mississippi families and then diverted to pet projects of Tate Reeves’ well-connected friends and campaign contributors, including a volleyball stadium and a horse ranch. Even Reeves’ personal trainer got cut in on the deal, receiving over $1 million dollars. And when the investigator got too close, Tainted Tate Reeves fired him to protect his rich donors and delay the investigation.

Tate Reeves doesn’t even have the guts to keep his promises and stand up to convicted criminals like Nancy and Zach New. In February 2020, Tate Reeves promised that he would return contributions from defendants that were charged in the welfare scandal. In 2023, the Associated Press found “no sign” Reeves returned or donated the $8,500 from Nancy and Zach New, even after they pled guilty to criminal charges in the welfare scandal. That’s no surprise - Reeves’ campaign was “proud” to shoot a TV ad at Nancy New’s private school when New was under investigation for stealing millions from disabled children.

“While Brandon Presley has the backbone to stand up to his own party, Tate Reeves doesn’t have the guts to stand up to his criminal friends who lost, squandered, or stole $77 million of Mississippians’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars on pet projects like a volleyball stadium, a horse ranch, and luxury cars for themselves,” said Michael Beyer, Communications Director for Brandon Presley.
