Presley For Governor Campaign Releases New TV Ad, “Nice Things,” Exposing Tate Reeves For Wasting Thousands Of Taxpayer Dollars On Himself

NARRATOR: “More for Tate. Less for you."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

October 6, 2023

Nettleton - Today, the Presley for Governor campaign launched a new TV ad, “Nice Things,” to expose the millions of taxpayer dollars in renovations that Tate Reeves made to the Governor’s mansion, including such extravagant features like a meditation garden and lemon tree room to fund his luxury lifestyle. While Tate Reeves was spending taxpayer dollars to pamper himself with the finer things, he also gave himself a $38,000 pay raise.

The ad highlights Tate Reeves' involvement in the largest public corruption in state history, where he looked the other way while his campaign contributors misspent millions of taxpayer dollars meant for working families on a volleyball stadium, a horse ranch, and even to fund Tate’s own personal trainer. The ad also highlights that Tate Reeves gave himself a raise of almost $40,000.

This week, a report from Fox News came out finding that Tate Reeves’ sister-in-law’s business, Snapshot Publishing, has received nearly $1 million from taxpayer-funded government, inaugural, and campaign contracts since Tate Reeves first became Lieutenant Governor in 2012. Snapshot Publishing, which was not filing business reports between 2004-2012 but applied to be reinstated as a business days after Tate Reeves became lieutenant governor, has received almost $800,000 from the state of Mississippi in total, with $84,075 in 2023 alone as of August.

“Whether it’s using taxpayer dollars to put lemon trees in the Governor’s mansion or giving state business contracts to his sister-in-law, Tate Reeves thinks he and his rich friends deserve the nicest things in life while Mississippians are left in the dust,” said Katharine Kurz, a spokesperson for the Presley for Governor campaign. “And while he gives himself an almost $40,000 raise, 220,000 Mississippians still don’t have healthcare and our state still has the highest tax on food in the country. We need a leader like Brandon Presley who has been where so many Mississippi families are and will take action on day one to put our government back in the hands of the people.”
