Empty Chair October: Tate Reeves Dodges Statewide Debates

For Months, Brandon Presley Has Called On Tate Reeves To Debate Five Times

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

October 4, 2023

Nettleton – Following the news of Tate Reeves dodging statewide debates the entire month of October despite Brandon Presley’s months-long call for five debates this fall, Brandon Presley released the following statement:

“Tate Reeves is hiding from Mississippians because he can’t defend his role in the largest public corruption scandal in state history or why your community hospital is on the brink of closure.

“Mississippians deserve to hear from both candidates for governor because of the serious challenges our state faces - and that’s why I’ve accepted five debates. I still plan on debating five times in October in every media market in the state - with debates starting next week. Heck, I’ll bring an empty chair to those debates if Tate Reeves is too scared to show up.”

BACKGROUND:

  • Brandon Presley has agreed to 5 debates: a WJTV Debate on October 13, a Gray TV (WLBT, WLOX, WDAM, WTOK, WCBI, WMC) Debate on October 26, NAACP Candidate Debates on October 9 and 19, and a Stennis Capitol Press Forum Debate on October 23.

  • On August 14, Brandon Presley called on Tate Reeves to participate in five debates.

  • In 2019, Tate Reeves participated in two debates against Jim Hood - WJTV and WCBI.

  • Last week, the Brandon Presley for Governor campaign released a new TV ad, “Hunt,” highlighting how Tate Reeves is hiding from Mississippians because he is the most corrupt governor in state history and he has failed on healthcare.
